How Many Feet of Balloon Garland Do I Need? A Simple Guide for Your Party
Let’s start with the short answer: it depends!
The size of the area you're decorating, how much coverage you want, and how full you want the garland to look all affect how many feet of balloon garland you'll need.
When you see balloon garland sold by the foot, it's easy to assume that 10 feet means balloons covering a 10 foot straight line. But a balloon garland isn't flat. It curves, clusters, and varies in fullness.
Although the length of the garland is largely dependent on your backdrop or the area you're wanting to cover, it also factors in the fullness of your garland. Ten feet of a fuller organic garland can have a very different visual impact from 10 feet of a simpler garland.
So, what does 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, or 20 feet of garland look like?
Here are two examples of 6 foot garlands used in different ways. On the left, a longer, more linear garland adds a pop of color to a pool house for a birthday party. On the right, a garland adds some extra flair to a dinosaur themed welcome sign, with more shape and fullness toward the bottom. Both use the same amount of garland, but the shape and placement give each design a different look.
These two examples show how much the style of garland can change the final look. The photo on the left features a Garland To Go, which is a more budget friendly option without the extra fullness and styling of our full service installations. These garlands tend to follow a more direct line. On the right, an 8 foot full service garland is styled on a hoop provided by the client, creating a fuller look with more dimension.
Ten feet is a popular choice when you want balloons on just one side of an arch. It creates a noticeable focal point without requiring balloons to cover the entire backdrop, making it a great way to make an impact while keeping costs down.
Ten foot garlands are also a great fit for smaller party features, like the 12 foot bounce house pictured here. Bounce houses like this one are popular at kids’ birthday parties, and a garland adds a fun, coordinated touch without overwhelming the space (PS - these were on sale last fall for $180 at Sam's Club!)
Twelve feet of garland is a great option for larger backdrops, including shimmer walls and other flat backdrop styles that need a little more coverage than a standard arch. This length can also make a big impact when used along a wall or around the entrance of a building. As always, the final look depends on how the balloons are shaped and arranged, as well as how much of the space you want to cover.
Our most popular backdrop package, which includes one backdrop and balloons, typically features around 12 to 15 feet of garland. For our two backdrop package, we typically use around 16 to 18 feet to help tie the two backdrops together and create a more complete focal point.
The photos here show a few other examples of garlands around the 15 foot mark. This length gives us more room to create curves, add fullness, and spread the design across a larger area.
Want to make a bigger statement? Larger installations are always an option! Whether you want balloons to cover more of the wall behind your backdrop or you're planning a larger event that needs a more substantial display, we can customize the garland length to suit your space and the look you're going for.
With 16 feet of garland or more, there's more room to create a dramatic shape, extend the design across a wider area, or build a fuller focal point. The goal isn't simply to add more balloons, but to use them in a way that makes sense for your event.
